One clause decides what a family gets when a scheduled visit does not happen, and many families never read it. This sheet shows the lookup. It is a records check and gives no advice on care.

Local option: New Plan Care gives families in the St. Louis area in-home help so a parent can stay home: companionship, help with bathing and dressing, meals, and overnight care. Call (314) 405-0887.

Find the clause

Open the written agreement the family is asked to sign, not the brochure or a spoken summary. Search the service terms, scheduling terms, or visit terms for the words missed, cancelled, late, and replacement. If none of those words appear, write down that the clause is absent. An absent clause is a finding.

Sort the causes of a gap

Check whether the paper treats a missed visit differently depending on who caused it. Mark each case on your sheet: the agency did not send a worker, the worker arrived late, the family cancelled on the day, the family cancelled ahead of time, and the home was not open at the scheduled start. Some papers count every case the same. Others split the agency's failures from the family's cancellations. Note which one this paper uses.

Check the notice rules

Find the notice the family must give to cancel a visit, and the notice the agency must give when it cannot send a worker. Copy both periods in the paper's own words. If the paper states a period without saying whether it counts hours, days, or business days, mark it unclear and put the question to the agency in writing.

Check the replacement and the credit

Look for a replacement rule. Does the paper promise a substitute worker, a make-up visit, or neither? Then look for any credit or adjustment line. Write down what the paper says the family receives when a visit does not happen. The file records what the paper says. A practice the agency describes on the phone is not in the file until it is written into the paper.

Find the reporting route

A missed-visit clause only works if the family knows how to report a miss. Find the route the paper names, such as a phone line, a portal, an email address, or a written form. Mark whether the paper says how soon the agency must reply.

Compare the papers side by side

Use one sheet per agency with the same headings every time: causes sorted, cancellation notice, agency notice, replacement, credit, reporting route. Leave a blank line blank. A blank is not a yes. When every sheet is filled in the same way, the gaps between agencies become easy to see.
